So you think that when you file a complaint about rip-off merchants and and shady contractors that the Better Business Bureau will always deal with it fairly and objectively.  My experience has proven that to be the case - sometimes.  However,  accredited businesses, those that pay about $300 a year to the BBB, are eligible to have a lawyer mediate a complaint for free.  This sounds fair enough, until you, the consumer, find out by reading the lawyer's resume that is sent to you that he has an excellent record for defending contractors against complainants.  So for $300, a contractor, through the BBB, can bring in muscle to scare off a consumer who feels intimidated by a pro-business lawyer.
