Description:

Award-winning Vietnam War documentary Winter Soldier with panel discussion (Comparing Vietnam to Iraq)to follow at THE NEON Dayton, Ohio - April 29, 2:00PM.

One of the most powerful documentaries about war ever made, Winter Soldier, was released 34 years ago but has rarely been seen in this country. This award-winning and recently re-released documentary, which is based on the testimony of Vietnam War Veterans, will be shown on Saturday April 29 at THE NEON (doors open at 2PM; film begins 2:30PM).

The film chronicles the Winter Soldier Investigation organized by Vietnam Veterans against the War, including a younger John Kerry, which took place during February 1971 in a motel in Detroit. More than 125 veterans testified at Winter Soldier inquiry to atrocities committed during the Vietnam War.

A panel discussion with Veterans who participated in the Winter Soldier Investigations will follow the film. Panelists include Marine Sergeant Scott Camil, whom The Washington Post called, "one of the film’s most eloquent witnesses, Marine Sergeant Joe Bangert who was part of the Winterfilm Collective of filmmakers, which created and archived the original documentary. Randy ‘Doc’ Barnes, former military medic, Winter Soldier investigator, and current Board Member of Vietnam Veterans of America; and Gary Staiger former Air Force medic from Dayton, Ohio who testified on the Medical Panel.

Although the film released in 1972, has only recently been shown to the American public. This past year, Winter Soldier was featured at the Lincoln Center, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Wexner Center at Ohio State University, and the Hamilton Williams Campus Center
at Ohio Wesleyan University. However, not even these prominent venues have held a post-screening panel discussion like the one lined up for THE NEON in Dayton.

Admission for the event is $6.00 for the public, $4.00 for Veterans and Students, Active Duty Military members are FREE. Proceeds are non-profit and benefit homeless veterans and victims of Agent Orange. The event's sponsors are Amnesty International, Voices for Agent Orange, Omega Music of Dayton, and Ohio Veterans and Military Families Speak Out Yahoo Forum.
