Supreme Court rules in favour of Military Recruiters
Article:
The Supreme Court in a 8-0 decision voted to allow military recruitment on any university that accepts federal money. This is due to a petitioning by students at universitys about "the don't ask don't tell" policy of treating gays. A coalition of law schools and FAIR (Forum for Academic & International Rights) tried to sue Donald Rumsfeld over the Solomon Admendment which ties recruitment to public funding. "A military recruiter's mere presence on campus does not violate a law school's right to associate, regardless of how repugnant the law school considers the recruiter's message," wrote Chief Justice John Roberts. "The Solomon Amendment neither limits what law schools may say nor requires them to say anything." This can be interpreted as an invitation for dissent and protest as students, faculty and anyone else confront military recruiters with counter-recruitment.
