Green Living Fayre Held in Zanesville, Ohio
Zanesville, OH – On Monday, September 7th 2009 the “Ohio Green Living Fayre” was held in Zane's Landing Park. The Fayre was officially opened after a speech about the need for cities to look more into green alternatives for city planning by the Mayor of Zanesville. The Mayor cut the ribbon after 11 o'clock in the morning and attendees walked through mock solar panels upon entering and towards a large variety of tents and booths where vendors stood, selling and discussing anything from herbs to vegan hot dogs to trinkets to electric powered mopeds.
Despite the on and off rain, the front stage had many performers, including young people singing green versions of old children songs, turning songs like “Hokey Pokey” into an educational song about composting. When the hardest rain was falling on the riverside park the rythemic ponding of the drum circle reverberated throughout the fayre.
Over 200 people attended the event, most of which wandered into the fayre's large variety of workshops, some of which were presented inside shelterhouses while others on a docked riverboat. The workshops taught many attendees on green technologies like wind and solar power, the proper blending of medicinal herbs for teas, sustainability through practicing permaculture and other educational approaches that deviate from typical mainstream life.
The Ohio Green Living Fayre is an annual event that plans to grow in the continuing years within the state. For more information, please visit ohiogreenliving.org. All net proceeds from the fayre are donated to Ohio based nonprofit organizations.
