Huntington Bank Art Heist
I think you might get a kick out of these art work installations I did at the OSU campus Huntington Bank. The first piece was called "This is not a pipe. after Magritte". It featured a large blown glass pipe sculpture with glass marijuana nuggets in the bowl. The manager allowed me to place the work there because she said she was a child of the seventies. A week later agents of North Steppe property mangement complained about the work. They removed the pipe and I replaced the installation with a series of ingraved goblets. Each goblet has the name of a differnt local arts orginization in Columbus or an international corporation. The list includes Monsonto, Cargill, federal reserve bank, wto, nato, jinsa, world bank, fox, dupont, caryle group. The local goblets include our spore print infoshop, urban garden coalition, third hand bike co op, simply living, glass axis, ohio art league, free geek, comfest, couchfire collective, and Columbus Indy Media. The idea is to question on what entites the viewer spends their time on, and gives significance to and how that effects their daily interactions and community. I belive these goblets titled "Our Hegemon" is a far more scathing piece than the orgional sculpture of the pipe and nuggets. However, it takes more understanding and READING than the local slum lords can muster. The goblets have been on display for over a month now.
The pedestool was provided by the Ohio State University in a collaboration with the Huntington and the OSU Department of Art. I am a graduate of OSU Glass Art.
Thanks for your activation of local culture!
