Maintaining Momentum and Unleashing Evil: Call for post-RNC consulta

Calling All Anarchists Throughout the Great Lakes and the Midwest,

Ya'll are invited to a Midwest and Great Lakes anarchist consulta in Milwaukee, this Halloween weekend (October 31st - November 2nd).

In early November of 2007, anarchists from across the Midwest gathered in Milwaukee to network and to plan some havoc for the Republican National Convention. Almost a year later, we in Milwaukee are excited to invite our friends of dubious intension back to our city. The purpose being to strategize and network for increased conflict with capitalism and the state in the coming months, and of course to cause some old-fashioned, ghoulish mischief on Halloween. Oh, and of course good food and warm places to stay.

Why Now?

The past year saw a tremendous amount of anarchist organizing in the Midwest, including the campaign against I-69, the mobilization against the RNC, and the Radical Queer Convergence in Chicago, to cite a few examples. These campaigns and events provided tremendous excitement and motivation to anarchists in the Midwest, and have built the infrastructure and relationships necessary to escalate resistance and conflict throughout the region.

After the RNC, we cannot let momentum die. We believe it is vital that we get together to share our experiences from this year, to decompress and support each other, to distill lessons from our successes and failures in Indiana and St. Paul, and of course to articulate a strategic direction for the coming months and beyond.

Upping the Ante

Yeah, the RNC was insane. We showed that in the face of anything the State could throw at us, we could work together and pull off something amazing. Plans changed, houses were raided, friends went to jail - and still we made something beautiful happen in the streets. We should be proud, and should celebrate, we should take time to recover and support one another.

But that doesn't mean we should stop. Let's treat the RNC as a beginning- as a springboard into greater and deeper resistance, which becomes a generalized and constant conflict. Rather than going dormant for a few years until the next big summit, it’s time to capitalize on our momentum and go on the offensive. We've shown that we can work together and get rowdy in the midst of the National Guard, a militarized police force and tens of millions of dollars of security. Imagine what we can do when we choose the battles and define the terms.

All the Monsters Come Out at Night

On Friday the 31st, let us reclaim Halloween for all things monstrous and mischievous, for as a wise man once said, “revolution is the unleashing of all evil passions.” We shall manifest ourselves as something powerful, as a raging beast. Let us give capitalism the creeps.
