Amnesty International highlights Venezuela for its policies in favor of womenAmnesty International highlights Venezuela for its policies in favor of women The Assistant Director of the delegation, Guadalupe Marengo, made these statements during a television program broadcast by the Venezuelan state-owned television channel Venezolana de Televisión. “Venezuela has made significant progress to end with violence against women. Fir instance, the promulgation of the Organic Law on the Right of Women to Live Without Fear of Violence, which came into force on March, 2007”, she said. Marengo statements are based on the report presented this Wednesday by Amnesty International at the event “Existe la ley, toca aplicarla” (There is a law, it is time to carry it out), where there were tackled diverse aspects regarding the violence against women in Venezuela. Marengo stated that “the promulgation of this law represents an important progress.” Moreover, she suggested that “it is vital not to lose the boost this law gives to fight against violence, thus, it is necessary to start right away its effective application.” Translated by Ernesto Aguilera
