Former Halliburton CEO Involved in War Profiteering at Walter Reed
The Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC is where tens of thousands of
the most seriously wounded US military from Iraq are taken. It has now been
exposed that these soldiers have been living with their war wounds with mice
and mould and unable to get proper treatment. So far George Weightman, Walter
Reed's commanding officer has been fired and Army Secretary Francis Harvey has
resigned as a result. Bush the "Commanding Officer" needless to say shirks his
responsibility once again. He should be the one resigning.
But the story of Walter Reed does not end there. Over the recent past there
have been moves to privatize some support services at Walter Reed. That is give
some of the services which up to now were run by the military over to private
companies to be run for profit. The Chicago Tribune March 3rd, 2007, reported
that in preparation for this profit gouging, for the treatment of the
soldiers to be used to make profits, management staff was cut from 300 earlier this
year to 60. This could not but have had a very negative affect on treatment
and morale. Profits before wounded soldiers.
But this scandulous crime does not end there. Walter Reed recently awarded a
five year $120 million contract to IAP Worldwide Services for base operation
support services. Now who is this company tied to? Take a guess. This company
is tied to a former official of Halliburton, which has won millions in U.S.
contracts in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And who was the chief executive of
Halliburton from 1995 to 2000. Cheney the present vice president was
Halliburton's Chief Executive from 1995 until he left to become vice president in
2000.
These crooks in the Bush regime are utterly shameless. Halliburton has been
robbing the country blind with no bid contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now an
"ex" official's company is letting the soldiers lie in filth and without
adequate care so profits can be made by privatizing some of the services at Walter
Reed. Cheyney did no go to Vietnam because as he said it he had other
priorities at the time. Bush did not go as his father got him out of it and he drank
and partied when he was supposed to be in the Texas national Guard.
This regime and its backers are rotten to the core. They slaughter the people
of Iraq and Afghanistan and they treat the US soldiers as cannon fodder to be
used in any way they want. They cut back the spending to the veterans health
care and now increasingly turn this into a source of profit.
End the wars and occupations of Imperialism in the Middle East.
Bring all troops home.
Bring down the corrupt Bush regime.
