Description:

Dave Zirin, columnist for "The Nation" and "SLAM" basketball magazine, is one of the few sportswriters in American who consistently draws out the connections between mainstream sports and issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, and nationalism. Arguing against a certain left dismissal of sports as being simply a vehicle for big corporatism, jingoism, and the status quo, Zirin talks about how sports has also been an important space for struggles for justice and equality. Check out www.edgeofsports.com and his book, "What's My Name, Fool!" (2005). Sponsored by International Socialist Organization-Columbus.
