Anarchism, properly understood ?
By Anonymous Indymedia User on 17 May 2012By Tom Over--- Perhaps I’m an old guy looking down on a younger generation of folk seeking social change, but most of the self-described anarchists I’ve engaged with are–in my humble opinion–actually something else. ‘Nihilism’ might be closer to the truth than ‘anarchism’ when it comes to their worldviews, though still not quite on the mark.
ecology, intellectual history and respecting our mother
By Anonymous Indymedia User on 17 May 2012By Tom Over --------- Let’s look for systemic solutions, not see individuals or humans in general as the problem. Some critics of the ecology movement, which includes animal rights, view it as anti-human. Positions of some activists, whether intentional or not, have fed into that. The world can do without a green version of the concept of original sin or any other philosophy based on the idea people are inherently bad.
Re-Imagining OSU
By Jason on 17 May 2012
I hung out for a couple of hours at the Re-Imagine OSU event yesterday, Wednesday May 16, 2012 from about 11:30am - 1:30pm or so. This isn't comprehensive coverage of what happened. Rather, it's more of an eye-witness report to be added to a more comprehensive article if needed.
Since I'm not connected to the university in any way other than living near it, I felt a little awkward when I first approached the South Oval event area. However, it only took a few minutes to realize that what was happening there was something that needs to be supported whether one has ties to the university community or not.
Gathering May 16th 9 PM to protest Corporate Enclosure of OSU's parking system
By Anonymous Indymedia User on 16 May 2012Last week over 3,300 students faculty and staff stood up and signed a petition stating that the trustee board has no right to sell off our public assets including our parking lots.
The unelected corporate executives that sit on OSU’s trustee board are getting nervous, really nervous.
There are close to 100,000 students, faculty and staff at OSU. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of proud buckeye alumni. That’s a lot of people… We have a lot of power…
On May 16th and 17th the OSU community is going to let the trustee board know that we want an Ohio State where the voices of students, faculty, and staff are respected, and are given a vote on issues that impact our lives.
Brazil: great President, Congress bad.
By Anonymous Indymedia User on 15 May 2012Brazil: great President, Congress bad.
While Dilma Roussef hits each day more, "pulling" the leveling of interest of the Brazilian public debt to international levels and begins to devise an industrial policy firmly grounded in a serious exchange rate policy and in science and technology, in addition to important tax cuts, Congress is the scene of successive corruption scandals, all them originated in the corporate funding of campaigns and in "not very corporate" funding of campaigns, and approves, with a rapporteur funded by the agro-business, apocalyptic Forest Code: A million square KM to the devastation.
