Occupy GMO Candidate Protest Coming October 17th

ACTION ALERT:

On Wednesday, October 17, one month after the commencement of the Occupy Monsanto Global Week of Action, we are calling for Occupy Monsanto GCU Field Agents across America to stage Decontamination Events at your nearest campaign office of Romney or Obama. For GCU Field Agents located outside of America, we suggest staging another demonstration at your nearest Monsanto facility or symbol of American toxic agriculture.

Why? Both presidential candidates are avoiding the GMO issue because both candidates tak
e money from Monsanto. Therefore its up to us to force them to take a position on GMOs.

Is it Too Late to Prevent Climate Catastrophe?

Is it too late?

In a round-about way, the new paper put out by the U.K. Met Office, the Walker Institute, the Tyndall Centre, and the Grantham Institute on August 8, 2012 entitled, "Development of emissions pathways meeting a range of long-term temperature targets" suggests it is.

Sporeprint Infoshop is Alive and Well

There's a lot going on in Columbus, Ohio.

If you'd like to find out what's going on, meet new people, support a local radical community, hold your meeting, book club, study group or other event, borrow radical (and not so radical) books, or just spend time hanging out, the Sporeprint Infoshop is a great place to do it.

97% of the Most Active Climate Scientists Agree

Some of you may have heard me talk about or read something I've written where I mention that most climate scientists agree on the signficance and potential destruction due to climate catastrophe.

When I write that, I think to myself it's probably around 60 - 80% of climate scientists. That's good enough for me to realize that we need to eradicate capitalist economic relationships and make sure everyone has:

Root Cause of Fracking: Capitalism

Bill Baker of Frack Free Ohio states:

"[The issue on the local ballot is] an attempt to take back local control and return local decision-making to our city council and the residents as to whether we want to permit injection wells or not. A core component of this is that it criminalizes fracking fluid without legislative approval, and legislative approval in our city limits would require disclosure of the chemicals. We’re back to that same issue of wanting to know what the heck is in this water. Is it just safe brine water as the industry tells us?" (1)

Safety at Occupy Columbus Statehouse Site in Question

It seems that the current iteration of Occupy Columbus hasn't taken my concerns seriously. (1) At least, it's impossible for me to know for sure since there are no recent meeting notes or any updates on the status of General Assemblies on the Internet anywhere. However, one way to tell is by the recent accounts of physical violence that have taken place at the site.

On August 24, 2012, Michael Alexzander King writes on the Occupy Columbus Facebook page:

Students Converge at Obama Office to Reclaim Voice

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Students from across the country will march from Ohio State University Student Union to President Obama’s campaign office to hold a press conference today, calling into question the injustices of our current economic and political system. In an era where our political process is gridlocked by the influence of money and corporate power, our society has systematically diverted resources from the bottom to the top to fund a frenzy of profit seeking.

Final Nail In Occupy Columbus Coffin

Earlier this year, I wrote on Columbus Indymedia encouraging anarchists to attend Occupy Columbus General Assemblies (1 | 2). Even if many of the proposals don't reflect anarchist principles or revolutionary goals themselves, the presence of anarchists and anti-authoritarians would have helped to keep the assembly directly democratic, ensure it was a safe space that was free of sexist, racist, classist, heterosexist, and other oppressions, and connect newcomers to other groups who may have been participating in actions that are more direct.
